What is Hyperbaric Oxygen?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a treatment that involves breathing elevated levels of oxygen in a pressurized chamber.

What does it treat?
Hbot treats a broad range of symptoms and conditions including but not limited to:

-
Traumatic brain injury
-
Nerve damage
-
Burns
-
Ulcers, gangrene and necrosis
-
Tissue Damage
-
Wound recovery
-
Infection
-
Acute ischemic condition
-
Surgery preparation
-
Post surgical recovery
-
Inflammatory conditions such as pancreatitis
-
Intervertebral disc herniation
-
Fractures

How does it work?

Pressurized Oxygen dissolves into all of the body fluid and tissues, allowing the oxygen to travel much deeper and further than normal, enhancing repair and recovery of ligament, bone, marrow, and other areas where normal oxygen levels are limited
Heightened Oxygen levels can have a profound anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial affect.
Hbot can reduce swelling and accelerate tissue healing dramatically.

What happens and how long does it take?
Your cat will be placed into a soft 100 % cotton wrapping and then accompanied by a human assistant into the chamber. Most sessions will include wound preparation and 24 minutes on our Pulsed Electric Magnetic Field Therapy mat to prime your pets' mitochondria to maximize the benefits of the oxygen session.
Most treatments take approximately two hours from start to finish, this includes any wound preparation, Pemf therapy and 45 - 90 minutes in the hyperbaric chamber at pressure.
Having a human assistant is our standout feature - this enables us to manually assist your cat in adjusting to the pressure (similar to being in an airplane while taking off and landing) by encouraging your cat to lick his nose and by massaging the ears. This has a calming effect on your cat. Your cat is held in a warm and comforting embrace for the duration of the treatment while being lovingly massaged. This helps to sooth your cat and keep it calm during the treatment.
We have a range of oxygen apparatus which we use to make sure that your cat is able to access as much oxygen as possible during the treatment, each cat has its own preference, and we work patiently with each cat to find the right fit - sometimes this is by gently following your cats muzzle around with the o2 canula for the duration of the treatment.

Why is my cat placed into a cotton wrap?
Our equipment is over 100k worth to replace and long wait times on repairs. Only 100% cotton materials are allowed into the chamber, so we mitigate the possibility of any cat hair, claws and wound contact by placing your cat into a 100 % cotton garment allowing only the cats face and head to be in contact with the equipment. The garment does not harm your cat or affect the oxygen delivery/Absorbtion

How many sessions will my cat need?

There is no one size fits all protocol, each situation must be assessed and reassessed as we go. Generally speaking, for general health care and preparation for surgery and post-surgical recovery, we recommend a minimum of x7daily sessions no greater than 24 hours apart for one week both before and following surgery. For more urgent situations, especially infection and open wounds, we recommend a starting point of x2 sessions daily for a period of one week and then reassess. We do double sessions 10-12 hours apart from the end of each session. The goal is to gain and maintain a solid level of oxygen saturation for maximum continued healing.
These protocols are not offered at other clinics for the simple reason that the clinics are not open after hours and most are closed over the weekends. As we are onsite and available 24/7, this allows us to offer the most effective treatment plans possible for your cat without limitations.

PLEASE NOTE:
Due to the nature of hyperbaric our assistant is limited to x2 dives per 24hrs to avoid oxygen toxicity. Each session takes a minimum of 2.5 hours staff time from preparation to completion ( longer in some cases depending on wound care and observation requirements). Our prices are the lowest in NZ for this treatment and we go the extra mile by providing human assistance during treatment
Our Hbot packages also include PEMF therapy & Moderate Level accommodation and care.
